Manchester City won 3-2, after leading 2-1 at half-time. Kick-off was at 16:00 SAST (15:00 in England) at the Etihad Stadium, and Farai Hallam refereed, according to our match data.
City looked comfortable for long periods. However, a VAR-confirmed penalty late on made the finish tense. Our live scores page shows the other scores from the day.
Phil Foden scored in the 19th minute, set up by Jeremy Doku, and Daizen Maeda equalised for Ipswich in the 21st minute from an Abdoul Ouattara assist. Haaland then put City 2-1 ahead in the 34th minute from a Mateo Kovačić assist, and he scored again in the 69th minute, assisted by Iliman Ndiaye.
Zian Flemming scored Ipswich’s second from the penalty spot at 90 minutes. As a result, Ipswich have now scored two or more goals in three of their four away league games this season.
VAR played a decisive role late on. In the 85th minute a Haaland goal was cancelled after a review. Then in the 88th minute a penalty was confirmed for Ipswich, and Flemming scored it at 90 minutes.
That moment kept the finish tense. Meanwhile, the cards were limited to three yellows, with Ouattara booked in the 73rd minute, Josko Gvardiol in the 90+7 and Leif Davis in the 90+12.
City took the lead early through Foden, but Ipswich equalised within two minutes. After that, Haaland’s goal before the break restored the advantage, and City controlled the second half until the late penalty.
City changed gradually. Enzo Fernández replaced Kovačić in the 50th minute, and Gvardiol replaced Nico O’Reilly in the 61st minute. Then Abdukodir Khusanov replaced Matheus Nunes in the 76th, and Elliot Anderson and Antoine Semenyo replaced Foden and Doku in the 77th. Ipswich, meanwhile, brought on Azor Matusiwa and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku in the 71st minute, Flemming and Chuba Akpom in the 78th, and Jack Clarke in stoppage time.
